Agrarian Hotel
The Village of Arroyo Grande, California
Project Information
Firma landscape architecture developed a landscape plan integrating hotel guests, neighborhood residents, a specimen oak, and sensitive creekfront by an active streetfront in Arroyo Grande, California. During concept development, a riparian transition zone emerged as an optimal location for guest amenity and pedestrian foot traffic. Context-driven hewn rail fencing guides the guest experience while protecting native habitat, and a planted bioswale retains water on-site. Irrigation was designed to be connected with a greywater system that decreases an already-minimal landscape water requirement. While the site underwent substantial grading to allow for the building footprint and necessary parking, a mature oak was protected within the plan and provides a foundation to the new landscape growing in.
