What is a Parklet

Parklets temporarily repurpose street parking for pedestrian use. These spaces can be used for seating, dinning, public art, planting and much more.

Why Install a Parklet

Due to COVID-19, health and safety restrictions have made it challenging for businesses to attract and accommodate customers. Distancing restrictions as well as narrow sidewalks increase the difficulty of maintaining a safe distance in urban environments. By adding a parklet, spacial constrictions can be mitigated while adding a new feature to the public environment. These new spaces can attract potential customers and increase the aesthetic appeal of a streetscape.

Features and Materials

Customize your parklet with features that suit your businesses needs and unique local character.

  • Plant Material: native grasses, succulents and cactus, or pollinator friendly

  • Building Material: reclaimed wood, corrugated steel, concrete, synthetic turf, and more

  • Iconic Features: string lights, chalk board, street murals, bike racks, and more

DESIGN CONCEPTS

Pub Style

A contemporary twist for transitioning outside, up to four groups of guests can enjoy bar/pub style seating safely and comfortably within  the space of about two parking stalls. Wood panels buffer road noise, while large planters act as structural support for stainless steel tabletops. Other surfaces lend themselves to signage, chalkboard areas, or public art.

Cafe Style

Merging natural forms with small tables and opportunity for lush planters, this parklet is a flexible, relaxed, and dynamic space. Three semi-enclosed zones can fit a range of guest sizes comfortably while maintaining a safe distance. This special cafe or dining space comes together with as few as four modular timber forms and a custom palette of low maintenance plant material suited for the urban context.
